Lab data
Black Cherry Gelato potency: THC, CBD and terpenes from 102 lab tests
In 102 state lab tests, Black Cherry Gelato flower had a median total THC of 23.98%, with the middle half of results between 21.13% and 25.18%, higher than the median of 38 of the 42 other strains in our dataset with at least 100 tests.1 CBD is negligible, and limonene leads the terpenes, followed by linalool.1 Leafly’s terpene panel lists caryophyllene first.2

Only 2023 has 20 or more tests (47, median 22.88%), so there is no trend to show; other years: 2020: 1, 2021: 2, 2022: 2, 2024: 4.1
THC by state
| State | Tests | Median THC |
|---|---|---|
| Nevada | 71 | 24.39% |
| Maryland | 15 | 23.10% |
| California | 11 | 19.69% |
States with at least 10 tests. Labs, testing rules and sampling differ by state, so compare states with care.1

How published THC figures compare
Strain databases publish a single figure or a range: Leafly lists 22%, AllBud 26%, Weedmaps 25–31% and SeedFinder’s description 14%.2,3,4,5 Grow and seed listings vary too: GrowDiaries’ entry for a BackpackBoyz version says up to 32%, and Premium Seed Market’s seed listing gives 22% in its specs and 26% in its description.6,7 In state lab results, 31.4% of Black Cherry Gelato flower reached 25% THC, where Weedmaps’ range begins, and 90% tested below 27.65%; the highest single result was 32.54%.1
By state, the medians were 24.39% in Nevada (71 tests), 23.10% in Maryland (15 tests) and 19.69% in California (11 tests); states with fewer than 10 tests are left out.1 Our terpene ranking by median, limonene 0.65%, linalool 0.51%, β-caryophyllene 0.33%, differs from Leafly’s panel, which lists caryophyllene, limonene and humulene; Leafly’s own description text names pinene as the dominant terpene.1,2

Limits of this data
- Coverage is uneven: Nevada (71), Maryland (15), California (11) and Michigan (5) supply all 102 tests, and only 56 of them carry a test date (Sep 8, 2020 to Sep 6, 2024). Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
- The sample is concentrated: one Nevada lab ran 68.6% of these tests (8 labs in total), and 76.8% of the 82 tests that name a producer come from a single producer. Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima.
- Terpene medians come from 78 tests with individual terpene values; 70 of the 93 tests with any terpene data are from Nevada. Maryland reports only total terpenes (15 tests). Michigan reports none.
- We matched names strictly: 21 longer product names containing “Black Cherry Gelato” (none of them flower) and 28 exact-name results for other product types were excluded and counted, and duplicate certificates are removed.
